Alpharetta City Guide where to eat, play and stay.

September 14, 2025

It greets you with flowers, bursts of orange, pink, and white lining the streets, setting the scene for a cheerful time you’ll almost certainly have on a weekend in Alpharetta. I’ve lived here for four years now, and in that time I’ve seen the town blossom, quite literally, while new homes pop up and young families settle in. Just 25 miles north of Atlanta, Alpharetta offers the peacefulness of a small town with the energy of a city on the rise.

Here’s my guide to where to eat, play, and unwind in Alpharetta.

Where to Eat in Alpharetta

Alpharetta’s dining scene is a mix of cozy neighborhood spots and polished restaurants that could totally hold their own in any big city. Feeling like pasta, Persian kabobs, or a legit New York–style slice? There’s always something new to try. Even the coffee shops and bakeries are basically hangout spots where locals end up staying way longer than they planned.

Restaurants

  • Colletta (Avalon). A modern Italian favorite, celebrated for its handmade pasta and meatballs that locals will defend to the end of time. And my favorite tiramisu! It’s the best I’ve ever tried so far!
  • Rumi’s Kitchen. Elegant Persian flavors brought to life with saffron rice, roasted vegetables, kabobs, and a vibe that feels both celebratory and soulful.
  • Tuscany Café. This spot is cozy and unexpectedly romantic, the kind of place where you might linger over a glass of wine, night turned soft and lazy as the pasta rolls on.
  • Cooper’s Hawk Winery & Restaurant. Known for its Napa-inspired winery-restaurant combo, it’s perfect for wine flights, seasonal dishes, and a lively night out with friends or date night vibes.
  • Made Kitchen & Cocktails. A stylish Spanish-inspired spot serving shareable tapas, creative cocktails, and plenty of atmosphere, ideal for date nights or catching up with friends.
  • 1858 Public House at The Hamilton Hotel. A downtown gem where cocktails feel like theatrical experiences and the vibe is stylish without ever trying too hard.
  • Foundation Social Eatery. Open kitchen, thoughtful technique, and menus rooted in French tradition but made for today’s palette, visiting here feels like dinner and a friendly lesson in flavor.
  • Delbar Middle Eastern. Elegant, airy, and big-hearted, Delbar delivers family-style Middle Eastern sustenance to shared tables and doing it in Alpharetta only confirms the hype.
  • Kimchi Red. Their Korean fried chicken actually earned “Best Fried Chicken in the Nation” on Yelp—crispy, saucy, and somehow addictive enough to bring repeat trips.
  • Jerusalem Bakery & Grill. A classic for hummus, shawarma, and bakery treats that feel homey, whether you’re taking a plate or two or just there for the pita.
  • Lily Sushi Bar. For evenings when you want something elegant, this intimate sushi bar serves omakase and binchotan-seared perfection (and rumored city-wide calm).
  • Branch & Barrel (Avalon). Locally sourced, craft-driven, with cocktails that taste like you’re unwinding at home with bourbon, maybe?
  • Cabernet Steakhouse. Full-on steakhouse vibes with rich décor, seafood, and even a cigar bar that makes you feel like you’ve stepped into a different era.
  • Chiringa. Think Cuban lobster rolls, island cocktails, coastal flavors, and margaritas that feel like sunshine in your glass.
  • Nahm Thai Cuisine. Elevated and elegant Thai food that somehow balances art and comfort green curry lamb that hits all the right notes and a coconut cake that might stop traffic.
  • CRÚ Wine Bar (Avalon). Napa-level attitude in the middle of Alpharetta: deep wine list, fun theme nights, and a vibe that swings from casual sips to Champagne-thirsty evenings.
  • Superica (Avalon). Tex-Mex with a side of sunshine wood-grilled fajitas, cheesy classics, & a festive energy that’s easy to return to.
  • True Food Kitchen (Avalon). Every dish here feels purposeful: fresh, health-minded, and cheerful enough to make you happy about your choices while still tasting good.
  • Firebirds Wood Fired Grill. Solid American steakhouse with a lively bar scene, patio time, and comfort that feels just special enough.
  • South City Kitchen Avalon. Elevated Southern comfort food, lovingly executed classics like fried green tomatoes and buttermilk fried chicken.
  • Coalition Wood Fired Steak & Seafood. Chef-driven, warm hospitality, and professional service make this a go-to for business meals and a surprisingly cozy setting.

Coffee Shops & Bakeries

Mornings aren’t complete without that first sip of coffee and a pastry you don’t have to feel guilty about. Sipping a latte, sharing a cupcake with a friend, catching up over tea, or just enjoying a quiet corner to scroll through your favorite feed, these spots hit the vibe just right for everyone.

  • Boarding Pass Coffee. Inspired by world travels, this café serves beans sourced from across the globe. Each cup feels like a mini trip.
  • Douceur De France. French pastries done right: buttery croissants, tarts, and espresso.
  • TBB (The Baking Grounds). A bakery-meets-community hub; their cakes and cupcakes are weekend staples.
  • Valor Coffee. Born from a roaster’s coffee cart, now a downtown favorite; vibrant, lively, with rotating seasonal lattes and Alon’s bakery pastries.
  • Collette French Pastry & Cafe. Bright, modern, and community-focused, this café is known for smooth lattes, seasonal flavors, and a welcoming vibe that keeps regulars coming back.
  • Ground & Pound Coffee. A hidden gem with a nostalgic early-2000s vibe, and creative favorites like the “Flu Shot” honey-latte or minty “Cool Sophia.” Named “Best Coffee Shop in Alpharetta” in 2022–2024.
  • The Nest Café. A sunny neighborhood favorite for made-to-order lattes and breakfast that fuels the day, complete with latte art and beignets that taste of home.
  • Café Intermezzo. European-style café right in Avalon: decadent cannoli cheesecake and Bailey’s cappuccino make it feel like a 300-year-old lounge.
  • Espressos Coffee. Quirky and laid-back, with a record-player soundtrack and cozy chairs. Try the salted caramel latte and a chicken-croissant breakfast that feels charmingly eclectic.
  • Just Love Coffee Cafe. A family-run spot built on community, known for heart-shaped waffle sandwiches and artisanal brews that feel like a hug in a mug.
  • Smallcakes of Alpharetta. Cupcakes galore with a side of coffee perfect when your sweet tooth demands something cheerful.
  • Fuel Coffee Cafe. A neighborhood gem (voted fave in eight areas!), with a cozy atmosphere that’s great for lingering.
  • Alpine Bakery & Pizzeria (Crabapple). Scratch-made breads and treats with old-school heart. Locals say the cookies and pies make the drive worth it.

Pizza

I am always up for good pizza! Are you craving a slice? Alpharetta’s pizza scene offers everything from classic Neapolitan to inventive fusion pies.

  • Antico Pizza Napoletana. A little taste of Naples, with blistered, wood-fired pies.
  • Crust Pasta & Pizzeria. A casual favorite for thin, cheesy slices that hit the spot.
  • Minnie Olivia Pizzeria. Wood-fired Neo-Neapolitan style pizzas with a Southern twist.
  • Sid’s Pizza. A laid-back ambiance with friendly service and a delectable menu in the heart of Alpharetta.
  • Joe’s New York Pizzeria. A local favorite serving up classic New York-style slices.
  • Vincenza’s Pizzeria. Known for their delicious pizza and friendly service.
  • Bryan Place Pizza & Pasta. Offers a variety of pizza options with generous portions.
  • I Love NY Pizza. Serving up authentic New York-style pizza with a variety of toppings.

Where to Shop in Alpharetta

Shopping in Alpharetta is way more fun than just ticking things off a list. Avalon’s got that mix of cute boutiques and big-name stores that makes you feel like you’re wandering a European town. And the vintage spots like Queen of Hearts? Full of quirky treasures you won’t find anywhere else.

  • Avalon. An upscale outdoor mall that feels more like a European village. Shop, eat, catch a movie, then lounge by the fountain.
  • North Point Mall. Once the region’s retail hub, still worth a trip for traditional shopping (and some nostalgia).

A lot of them are right in downtown, so you can park once and wander to restaurants, shops, or catch some live music. There’s something for everyone, cute boutique spots, wellness-focused hotels, or just a comfy place to crash after a day of exploring.

  • The Hamilton Hotel (Curio Collection). Downtown boutique hotel with stylish rooms, a speakeasy-style bar, and the feeling of being in the center of everything.
  • Even Hotel Alpharetta – Avalon Area. Great for wellness-focused travelers (think in-room workout equipment and healthy menu options).

That’s Alpharetta: cozy, cheerful, and always buzzing with something new. Come for the food, the festivals, or just a quiet walk among the flowers, and you’ll quickly see why so many of us love to call it home.

Marbella Old Town is full of little surprises for those who wander slowly. Narrow streets, colorful tiles decorating doorways and buildings, flowers spilling from windows, and small bars tucked away as if waiting to be discovered.
Every corner whispers stories from the past. The walls, the doorways, even the cobblestones hold layers of history — centuries of people, culture, and life layered throughout the city. Castillo Alcazaba, built in the 10th century during the Moorish period, stands as a reminder of Marbella’s rich heritage, overlooking the old town with quiet strength.
And after all that wandering, it’s impossible not to pause for a taste of the city. This time I stopped at a tapas and wine bar Barril del Gusto, savoring Chorizo de Ronda in almíbar de vino Cartojal with a glass of Spanish white wine. Simple, delicious, and perfect after a slow exploration. #spain #movetospain #malaga #marbella #travel

I’ve heard this from so many expats who moved from the US to Spain or other European countries — Italy, France, and beyond. They all say the same thing: slowing down is harder than it sounds. Letting go of the constant rush, the need to be productive, to achieve more and more, to always be busy.
That mindset runs deep. Being busy feels important. Almost necessary. Sometimes more important than joy. More important than simply being.
And now, living it, I understand exactly what they meant. It’s like having an internal timer that never stops ticking, always pushing me to multitask, to do more, faster.
So maybe the first step is awareness. Catching myself. Gently reminding myself to slow down. To focus on one thing at a time. Inhale. Exhale. Creating instead of constantly doing. And maybe, just sitting still and watching the soft rhythm of the waves. #spain #movetospain #malaga #marbella #travel

Christmas and New Year in Marbella feels so special. One highlight is the Secret Christmas Street in central Marbella at Calle Córdoba — a small street decorated entirely by local residents. This has been a neighborhood tradition since 2020 and feels very personal, creative, and local.
Walking through Marbella city center, everything feels festive and relaxed with lights everywhere.

Another must-see is the Christmas fair at Alameda Park. You’ll find holiday stalls, handmade gifts, music, and seasonal food. Hot spiced wine is especially popular on cooler evenings, and there’s one very popular spot making freshly fried churros: warm, simple, and absolutely worth stopping for. #Spain #christmastime #malaga #marbella #travel

Last weekend we spent a day in Marbella, wandering through the historic old town and finishing with a little time by the beach. We walked through the main square, passed the Dalí sculptures along the promenade, and just took it all in.
A little fun fact I loved learning: the name Marbella comes from the Arabic ‘Marbal-la,’ given by the Moors, possibly meaning ‘beautiful sea’ or ‘well-inhabited place’.
And of course, no day in Spain is complete without food. We stopped at a local Spanish restaurant for tapas and a bowl of sopa castellana — a traditional garlic soup. Warm, simple, and exactly what we needed.
Marbella feels like an easy mix of history, art, sea air, and really good food, perfect even for a one-day visit.

As this year comes to an end, new beginnings are quietly lining up ahead of us. Before rushing into what’s next, I want to pause and say a kind, honest goodbye to 2025.

Remembering this year brings mixed emotions: pain, exhaustion, and excitement, all at once.

It began in the emergency room with a beloved person, followed by months of recovery, uncertainty, and life on pause. Our carefully planned scouting trip to Spain was canceled. And then came the decision, the hardest part of all:

Do we still take the leap and relocate to Spain without that trip… or do we let go of the dream altogether?

That question was terrifying.

Once the decision was made, everything else became technical: research, planning, paperwork, logistics. There was no space left for creativity. Many of my creative projects had to be put on hold so we could simply move forward.

Ever since my first big adventurous move (relocating to Cancún, Mexico in 2013) I’ve felt deeply grateful. Grateful to experience different cultures, live in another language, grow through discomfort, and be amazed by every small step forward.

This kind of lifestyle isn’t for everyone. It’s for those who feel comfortable being uncomfortable and see it as a catalyst for growth.

Comfort is such a vague concept anyway. We all define it differently. Often, an interesting and engaging life has little to do with the size of your house, cars, brand labels, or followers. Exploration and learning tend to fill an inner space so fully that the hunger for more material things naturally fades.

Yes, life is life everywhere. You can’t run away from yourself.

I once heard the saying: “People who wander are lost.”
I don’t believe that. I think those who wander are deeply curious — about the world, life, and themselves.

So here’s what I hope inspires you:
Don’t be afraid to make a brave decision. It may not meet others’ expectations, even family, and that’s okay.

We all have one life. This one.
Live it your way.

I wish you a year full of brave decisions, endless inspiration, and curiosity.
And when fear shows up, see it as a sign that you’re about to grow. #movetospain #travel #spain #inspiration

And then came the decision, the hardest part of all: Do we still take the leap and relocate to Spain without that trip… or do we let go of the dream altogether? I once heard the saying: “People who wander are lost.” I don’t believe that. I think those who wander are deeply curious — about the world, life, and themselves. So here’s what I hope inspires you: Don’t be afraid to make a brave decision.
