Five benefits of finding your personal style

November 14, 2024

Twenty years ago, as a student, I didn’t think about finding personal style. It was less popular than it is today. Though glamour magazines like Vogue, ELLE, and Harper’s Bazaar did their best to promote fashion clothes and accessories, I didn’t understand the real meaning of “personal style.” If you asked me about it, I would probably answer something like that: “Personal style is about following the latest fashion trends and having a wardrobe filled with clothes from the newest collections. Thus requires having lots of money.”

how to find personal style

My wardrobe back then was very basic, according to what I could afford: several pairs of jeans, warm pants, knit dresses of dark color and sweaters, and several pairs of shoes, one for each season. I wasn’t thinking about finding personal style, and there were no Pinterest inspiration boards or affordable online shopping.

After graduating from University, I was more focused on finding a job and defining my goal for life. Then trying to make my personal life look pretty. When I challenged myself by traveling solo halfway around the world with a one-way ticket. I didn’t have time to think about finding a personal style, although somewhere along the way, I realized the healing effect of wearing colorful clothes.

before and after finding personal style

Nowadays, personal style is discussed more often, and there are much more opportunities to define it. In addition, social media, like Instagram and my favorite, Pinterest, has made it easier to look for inspiration and create mood boards that are very helpful in the search for personal style.

How important is having a personal style? The answer depends on your background, surroundings, and aspirations. You’ll probably consider it important if you want to elevate your confidence, level up your life, and energize yourself with visual aesthetics. Even if you have yet to learn how to find your personal style, the fact that you are researching it means it’s gaining more importance in your life.

I didn’t know finding your personal style had benefits until I experienced that on my own. It was more of an improvised exploration, where I wondered, researched, asked myself dozens of questions, and finally had my “aha moment”. It was a great experience!

Finding your personal style is not a one-day trip to the nearest shopping mall but rather an exciting journey. And as with every journey, it takes time. It might take several days, weeks, or months, depending on the following:

  • the level of your emotional investment
  • decisiveness
  • understanding of your body type
  • aesthetic and visual guidance
  • recognizing the goals of the “Finding your personal style” journey

Five benefits of finding your personal style

  • It helps to redefine and crystalize your individuality.

There are moments in life when you voluntarily change the direction of your life, or you are forced to do it. The results of some events or experiences pivot your thoughts in a different direction. It might be after a breakup or divorce, switching jobs or moving to another country, a midlife dilemma, or a strong desire to level up life. However, the general vibes of that moment are always the same – shaky, unstable, and hectic. That’s when finding your personal style can be very handy.

Due to the visible nature of clothing, defining personal style can have a much stronger effect on the conscious and subconscious mind.

Many researchers have proven that sight is the strongest sense in humans. And seeing your reflection in the mirror, personal photos and videos is a direct act of using your sight, your beautiful eyes. So, when you find your personal style, it becomes easier to redefine and shape your new individuality because you will see the results immediately, reflected in the mirror. Clothing, accessories, and other elements of personal style serve as a visible confirmation and tangible demonstration of your individuality.

  • Boost confidence

Confidence results from experience – learning, creating, achieving, winning, liking something, and feeling happy. It’s the process of growing, trying new activities, and expanding your own perception of yourself. Finding your personal style can be challenging, but the outcome boost in confidence is worth all the effort.

  • Business benefits

Your personal style provides you with a unique visual voice, though it’s soundless but very visible. And in the business world, where you need to be seen to strive and promote your services, having a personal style can raise your visibility level.

a personal style how to find
  • It makes shopping for clothes easier

Every time you go grocery shopping, it’s easier and takes less time when you have a list of items you need to buy. You know exactly what you want and don’t hesitate about your choice. The same scenario happens when you know your personal style and can define it with three words. That’s when shopping for clothing turns into a pleasurable activity and brings satisfaction.

“Il n’y a qu’un bonheur dans la vie, c’est d’aimer et d’être aimé.” — George Sand

Traveling to France is a dream, one shared by many of us who find beauty in its effortless elegance. I often imagine it as pure indulgence: the scent of coffee and buttered croissants, the sound of slow conversation, the feeling of time stretching just enough to let you breathe.

Until that day comes, I’ve found a little France of my own — Roswell Provisions @roswellprovisions , one of the most charming French cafes and restaurants tucked in the heart of downtown Roswell on Canton Street.

By day, Roswell Provisions hums softly: espresso cups clinking, sunlight spilling through the windows, a quiet rhythm of conversation in the air. By night, it exhales into something slower and softer. Candles flicker on the tables, and the balcony upstairs becomes a whisper of Paris, the kind of place where time stretches just a little, where you stay for one more sip of Bordeaux simply because the evening feels too beautiful to end.

The interior tells a story that feels both familiar and far away. A mix of French decor and rustic textures, wood beams and iron accents meet vintage chandeliers and mirrors that hold the glow of a hundred golden afternoons. The floors creak underfoot — not in complaint, but in conversation — as if reminding you that beauty doesn’t need to be polished to be perfect.

In a part of Georgia known for its modern cafés and clean lines, Roswell Provisions feels like a quiet rebellion. A love letter to imperfection. A little reminder that charm isn’t found in symmetry, but in soul.

Just a week ago I wandered through the halls of the High Museum of Art and found myself utterly captivated by the latest exhibition from Viktor & Rolf, a fashion house that doubles as an art-studio, founded by the Dutch duo Viktor Horsting & Rolf Snoeren back in 1993.

The moment I stepped into the gallery, I felt as though I’d entered a dream: layers of tulle, bold sculptural silhouettes, unexpected materials, a flair for the theatrical. These dresses were statements. Elegance and extravagance entwined with surrealism and splendor. Most of what I saw truly belonged in the realm of haute couture, fashion elevated into art, infused with ideas and attitudes.

What struck me most:

Viktor & Rolf’s work challenges everything we expect from fashion. They blur the border between runway and installation, clothing and sculpture.

In each dress I sensed a narrative something beyond “what to wear” and more “what to think”. These pieces whispered of refined rebellion.

The craftsmanship is astonishing. It’s about transformation. Couture with a message.

And therein lies the beauty: To wear or even just view such a piece is to bear witness to a bold vision of luxury, art, and identity.

In short: this visit reminded me that fashion can be more than style, it can be art, it can be commentary, it can be wonder. If you ever get the chance to see Viktor & Rolf’s work in person, don’t just look, immerse. Let the shapes, textures, and storylines wash over you.

In short: this visit reminded me that fashion can be more than style, it can be art, it can be commentary, it can be wonder. If you ever get the chance to see Viktor & Rolf’s work in person, don’t just look, immerse. Let the shapes, textures, and storylines wash over you.

Muted petals, soft light, a whisper of fragrance in the air…
Time slows. Beauty lingers.
For a moment, the world feels gentler
As if flowers remember something we’ve forgotten.

In 2024, I attended the opening reception of a flower exhibition by the incredibly talented florist and designer Skye Lin, the founder of Pinker Times. @pinkertimesofficial

The Pinker Times exhibition was light, immersive, and full of emotion. The main attraction, of course, was the flower sculptures: delicate compositions of preserved and silk flowers in different colors, textures, and shapes. I was mesmerized by Skye’s signature palette: soft, muted tones that carry a sense of quiet sophistication and tangible elegance. Each arrangement felt alive, almost as if the flowers were dancing together in a slow, graceful ballet.

Through a Vintage Film Camera I Found Time Again ...

Taking photos with old vintage film camera for the first time felt like stepping into another era, a world slower, quieter, more deliberate. It was frustrating, yes, but also strangely illuminating.

Digital spoils us with endless clicking: trial and error, rapid-fire bursts, the safety of delete buttons. Film does the opposite. It asks for restraint. Every shot mattered.
Film captures intention. There’s no instant feedback, no glowing screen to reassure or correct. You press the shutter, and then you wait.

Film whispers the value of patience, intention, and quiet artistry, virtues so easily lost in the world of instant everything. It reminds me that photography is less about chasing perfection; but more about presence.

More romantic and nostalgic feelings expressed in words in my new article, link in the Bio.

A little reminder that charm isn’t found in symmetry, but in soul. . . . #interiordesigns #interior_and_living #interiordesigners #interior2you #designlovers #interiordesigninspiration #interiordesignideas #interiordesigninspo #designhome #homeaccessories #homeaccents #homestyling #simplehomestyle #stylehome #houseinterior #homeinteriors #moderninteriors #interiordesignphotography #homedecorating #homedecorideas #homedecorlovers #housedesign #decorateyourhouse #residentialdesigns #lovedesign #homedetails #homedecorshopping #interiorinspo #interiordesigncommunity #wallart

In 2024, I attended the opening reception of a flower exhibition by the incredibly talented florist and designer Skye Lin, the founder of Pinker Times. @pinkertimesofficial The Pinker Times exhibition was light, immersive, and full of emotion.
