Setenil de las Bodegas is simply AMAZING! One of those places in Andalusia that makes you wonder how people came up with the idea of building a town like this?!

Its location is unique. Instead of building houses around the rocks, people built them underneath enormous rock overhangs, using the natural landscape as part of their homes. Walking through the town, you can find entire streets where the rock hangs right above your head, creating a very unusual mix of whitewashed houses and massive stone walls.

Two of the most famous streets are Calle Cuevas del Sol, where the sun reaches the houses, and Calle Cuevas de la Sombra, where the huge rock overhead keeps the street in the shade. And this contrast between light and shadow makes the town especially interesting to photograph.

Setenil de las Bodegas is part of Andalusia's famous white villages, but its architecture and unusual setting make it quite different from the others.

One of the things I loved about Moclinejo was all the colorful ceramic tiles and little handmade details you find around the village. The whitewashed houses are already beautiful, but all those little bursts of color make the streets feel so much more personal and alive. Moclinejo has a growing local ceramics tradition, and the municipality itself highlights pottery and ceramics as part of its cultural identity. In particular, artist Antonio Montañez has had a big influence on the colorful mosaics and ceramic installations you see around Moclinejo and its nearby hamlet, El Valdés.
Moclinejo is also part of the Ruta de la Pasa, the famous Raisin Route through the Axarquía, a region with a long tradition of growing Moscatel grapes and making raisins. #spain #travel #andalucía #costadelsol #moclinejo

Moclinejo is also part of the Ruta de la Pasa, the famous Raisin Route through the Axarquía, a region with a long tradition of growing Moscatel grapes and making raisins. #spain #travel #andalucía #costadelsol #moclinejo

Working on a new article about the best wineries in Sonoma Valley made me go back through photos I took in San Francisco while traveling there, and it reminded me just how many beautiful places this world holds.

San Francisco and Sonoma Valley has such a mix of everything, peaceful and full of energy, creative and reflective, surrounded by nature, good food, wine, art, and so much character.

Looking through those photos again brought back that feeling of being somewhere that feels completely different, yet somehow familiar at the same time. #travel #sanfrancisco #travelphotographer #travelphotography #california
