In Cancún, I spent years doing beach photoshoots, everything from flying dress photoshoots to family portraits, marriage proposals, and fashion photoshoots. That’s when my way of seeing beaches really changed. They were no longer just places to relax (at least for me). They became creative spaces, backgrounds, light conditions, textures, and moods. In short, part of the artistic process.

Most Marbella beaches are conveniently located within or close to the city, which makes them very easy to access. That matters more than it might seem. If you are visiting and don’t want to rent a car, accessibility becomes just as important as beauty when choosing the best beaches in Marbella without a car.
What makes a beach “beautiful” for photoshoots?
For me, it’s never just about a long stretch of sand.
A visually interesting beach usually has more layers than that. I look for natural elements that create composition: palm trees, rocks, dunes, vegetation, even small changes in elevation. Something that breaks the flatness and gives the eye different points of focus.
The more natural variation there is, the more interesting the beach becomes for Marbella beach photography. Light behaves differently, shadows feel softer, and the space starts to feel more alive.

The best time for Marbella beach photography is early morning or just before sunset. This is when the light is soft, warm, and dimensional.
Midday light tends to be harsh and flattens textures, especially sand and water. Golden hour, on the other hand, brings out tones, shadows, and depth turning even simple beaches into something visually layered and cinematic.
Best beaches in Marbella from a photographer’s perspective
Cabopino Beach
One of the most naturally beautiful beaches in the area and often considered among the hidden beaches in Marbella Spain. It has dunes, pine trees, and a more untouched landscape. It feels open, wild, and very photographic, especially during golden hour.
This is my favorite beach in Marbella. I remember the first time I saw it, I instantly knew there was something different about it and it was it’s character.
It has a perfect balance of greenery and sand dunes. Soft, almost desert-like texture of the dunes, combined with deep green pine trees, which creates a very layered and visually interesting background. It gives you options when taking photos, you can frame wide, minimal shots or create more detailed, textured compositions.
One practical thing to keep in mind is parking. It can be quite complicated here and fills up very quickly, especially on weekends. Even if you find a spot, it’s not uncommon for cars to double park, which can block you in. My recommendation is to park a bit further away from the main entrance and walk, it’s a much less stressful experience and part of the overall atmosphere of this place.
Playa del Real de Zaragoza
Playa del Real de Zaragoza offers a more relaxed and slightly quieter atmosphere compared to some of the more popular beaches in Marbella. It does have some really nice spots for a photoshoot, especially if you take a bit of time to walk and explore the area.
What makes this beach a bit more unique is that it’s part of the Dunes of Marbella Ecological Reserve. This means you’ll find natural dune landscapes, native vegetation, and a more preserved coastal environment. Wooden walkways guide you through the area, helping protect the dunes while still allowing you to enjoy and take photos of the scenery.
There are also a few beach clubs nearby, which makes it convenient if you want to pause and enjoy some tapas or a drink after your photoshoot. It’s a good balance between natural scenery and comfort. If Cabopino feels too crowded, this beach can be a great alternative, it offers more space, a calmer atmosphere, and still a very visually pleasing background for photos.
Playa de las Cañas
A smaller, tucked-away beach with a quieter atmosphere. It feels more local and less busy compared to central Marbella beaches, making it a great option for less crowded beaches in Marbella.
One of its advantages is the easy access, there is usually fair amount of parking spots around, as it sits between residential urbanizations in Marbella. It may not be as wide or dramatic as some other beaches, but it offers a calm, convenient setting with a more relaxed pace.
Playa de Nagüeles
Playa de Nagüeles has a more refined and polished atmosphere compared to many other beaches in Marbella. Located along the Golden Mile, it sits within one of the most elegant areas of the coast, surrounded by luxury hotels, beach clubs, and landscaped residential spaces.
It is also close to places like Puente Romano Marbella and Nobu Hotel Marbella, which adds to its elevated and well-kept visual character. The access to the beach is tucked between hotel areas, giving it a slight resort-like feel rather than a fully open natural entry.
Compared to more open beaches like Cabopino, it feels a bit more structured and contained, with less sense of freedom in the surroundings. Still, palm trees, clean promenades, and calm Mediterranean tones create a balanced and visually pleasing environment.
Playa de los Monteros
A quieter stretch with wide sand and a softer, more natural feel. It is less crowded and works well for long walks and minimal compositions. A strong option for quiet beaches in Marbella.
Playa de Alicate
More residential and peaceful, with a relaxed rhythm. It feels local and unhurried, with a long coastline and open views. A good escape from the more central areas.
Playa de la Fontanilla
One of the central beaches in Marbella, Playa de la Fontanilla is very accessible and full of energy. The promenade, cafés, restaurants, and beach clubs located just behind it create that classic Marbella beach atmosphere where something is always happening.
It may not be the most visually dramatic beach in the area, but it has a lively charm and works well if you enjoy combining beach time with the city lifestyle. For photography, especially lifestyle or casual vacation-style photos, the mix of sea, promenade life, and palm trees creates a pleasant and relaxed background.
One practical advantage of this beach is parking. There are several public parking lots nearby, which makes it much easier if you are exploring Marbella by car. Considering how complicated parking can be in some beach areas around the Costa del Sol, this definitely adds convenience.
Another detail that adds character to Playa de la Fontanilla is the nearby Arroyo Guadalpín area, where the stream coming down from Sierra Blanca reaches the sea. It adds a touch of greenery and a more natural contrast to the otherwise urban beach setting.
It can also be a nice spot for a photoshoot, especially for those of you looking for a location that combines beach scenery with greenery in the same area. That mix creates a softer and more layered background compared to a typical open beach view.
Playa del Cable
Located close to Marbella’s city center and port area, Playa del Cable has a slightly more urban atmosphere, but at the same time feels calmer and more spacious than some of the central beaches like Playa del Faro, Playa la Venus, or even Fontanilla.
One thing I noticed about this beach is how much wider it feels. There is more open sand, more breathing space, and usually a quieter atmosphere, especially if you walk a little further from the main access points. Because of that, it can feel more relaxing compared to the busier beaches closer to the heart of Marbella.
It may not have the dramatic dunes of Cabopino or the greenery of some other beaches, but its openness and convenience make it a pleasant option, especially if you are staying nearby and want an easier, less crowded beach experience.
Playa la Venus
Playa la Venus is located right next to central Marbella, just a short walk from Playa del Faro. It is compact and very easy to reach, and while it still gets quite busy, it often feels slightly more open because the beach is a bit wider.
Compared to its neighboring beaches, it can feel a little less dense, especially in the early morning. That makes it a nice option for a photoshoot if you need something in a very central location but with a bit more breathing space.
It is also very convenient if you are not driving, as it is easily reachable by public transport or on foot from Marbella Centro. And after a morning shoot, it’s the kind of place where you can easily stay nearby and enjoy a traditional Spanish desayuno by the sea.
Playa del Faro
Playa del Faro is a small, very central beach located right next to Marbella’s old town. It is within walking distance from Parque de la Alameda and the historic lighthouse, which makes it one of the most accessible beaches in Marbella Centro. Because of its location, it tends to be quite busy, with constant movement and plenty of restaurants and cafés surrounding the area.
This beach has a very urban, lived-in energy, where the rhythm of daily life is always present. Instead of a quiet or isolated setting, you get a mix of beach, promenade activity, and city atmosphere all in one frame. It can be a good choice if you are drawn to places with character and movement.
From a photography perspective, Playa del Faro requires a more intentional approach. Compositions need to be carefully considered due to the activity in the background, but with the right angles, it is possible to create strong andinteresting images that reflect the energy of Marbella Centro.
Playa de la Bajadilla
Playa de la Bajadilla is a more local-style beach located next to Marbella’s fishing port. It has a very authentic everyday atmosphere, with less of a curated or tourist-focused feel compared to many other beaches in the area.
Because of its location, the surroundings feel visually busier. You have the port nearby, fishing boats, and constant activity around the harbor, which gives the whole area a more dynamic and lived-in character.
There are also a few restaurants and small places to eat close by, making it convenient if you want to stop for something after a walk along the beach. Overall, it’s a different side of Marbella more functional, more real, and less polished than the central or resort areas.
Marbella is often described through luxury: beach clubs, yachts, and polished spaces. But spending time along the coast shows something different.
