It was the evening of our last visit to Miami, and we were wandering near our hotel, citizenM Miami World Center, letting the city set the pace. The Freedom Tower glowed in deep red light, demanding attention, while trams slid past on electric rails woven between tall buildings, giving the streets a subtle sci-fi edge. Miami is often defined by glamour and spectacle, but that night we were craving something different, a relaxed, casual dinner, ideally seated at the bar. We’ve always loved bar culture; it makes dining feel easy, social, and unpretentious.
After taking in the lights and movement of downtown, we stopped at Serafina. The music drifting from inside, soft, evening chill, immediately drew us in. A quick glance at the menu confirmed it, but what truly sealed the decision for me was the restaurant decor.
As a photographer and someone deeply attentive to aesthetics, I instinctively respond to spaces where design feels balanced and intentional. Serafina invited exploration. Details layered across walls, ceiling, and floor, all connected through thoughtful lighting.
The interior design of the restaurant is warm and calming, built around a refined palette of brown, gold, green, with subtle touches of red. It feels elegant without being formal, welcoming without trying too hard.
Light plays a central role here, something I’m especially sensitive to, both in photography and in life. Soft ambient lighting is punctuated by gentle highlights, guiding your eye naturally through the space.
The illuminated wine display changes character depending on where you stand, making the room feel alive and ever-shifting.
What becomes immediately clear is how intentional the restaurant interior design truly is. Warm leather seating contrasts with smooth stone floors, while abundant greenery softens the clean architectural lines. Oversized fabric pendant lights hang low, casting a golden, intimate glow that defines each table without overwhelming the space.
The plants function almost like living walls, subtly dividing areas while reinforcing the relaxed, tropical atmosphere. Glass surfaces reflect evening lights and movement, blurring the line between indoors and outdoors. This balance of texture, light, and space is what gives the modern restaurant interior design its quiet confidence.
Sitting at the bar, it’s impossible not to notice the ceiling. Thin metal chains arranged into a flowing, curtain-like structure. Combined with dim lighting, it creates a sense of mystery and movement above you, almost sculptural.
Depending on where you stand, the material shifts from warm gold to deeper bronze tones, creating a subtle sense of rhythm overhead. It’s one of those design elements that doesn’t shout for attention but quietly rewards those who look up.
The food we ordered was simple and satisfying, contributing to an overall sense of ease rather than performance. A glass of Sauvignon Blanc felt just right for a warm Miami evening, and we lingered longer than planned, enjoying the rhythm of the space.
What stayed with us most was the feeling we left with. Serafina restaurant didn’t scream “look at me”, something many Miami restaurants tend to do. Instead, it seemed to say, “I hope you had a good evening, really!”. And we truly did.
Interior design, at its best, is a form of emotional architecture. Here, the flow of objects, light, and space created exactly what we were looking for that night: calm, warmth, and a sense of being quietly cared for. And sometimes, that’s the most beautiful design choice of all.
